A fourth-floor apartment in a 1950s block on one of the sloping streets of Cihangir, the residential quarter below Taksim that has drawn writers, film people and long-staying foreigners for decades. The building sits high enough on the hill that the living room and the main bedroom look out across rooftops towards the Bosphorus, with the water visible as a band between the buildings opposite. It is a genuine view but a partial one, and would be lost if the block opposite were ever rebuilt taller. Inside, the apartment is original and honest about it: sound floors, serviceable wiring, a kitchen and bathroom from an earlier refurbishment that are dated but working. Most buyers here renovate, and the flat is priced on that basis. There is no lift, which at the fourth floor is a real consideration. Cihangir's cafés and small food shops are on the doorstep, and the M2 metro at Taksim is about eight minutes uphill. Parking is not available.
