Üsküdar occupies the Asian shore directly opposite the old city, and it offers something specific: Bosphorus frontage at a meaningful discount to the European side. The waterfront villages strung north of the centre — Kuzguncuk with its painted timber houses, Beylerbeyi beneath its palace, Çengelköy with its tea gardens — are among the most photographed residential streets in Istanbul, and they remain genuinely residential rather than tourist-facing. Behind them the land rises to Çamlıca, where the views open out across both continents. The district is more traditional and more family-oriented than Kadıköy to its south; it is quieter in the evenings, and buyers looking for bars and late openings should know that in advance. Transport is strong. The M5 metro terminates at Üsküdar, Marmaray runs beneath the Bosphorus from the same interchange to Sirkeci and Yenikapı in a few minutes, and ferries cross to Eminönü, Karaköy and Beşiktaş throughout the day. Prices sit in the middle of our range, which makes a water-view apartment here roughly comparable to an inland one in Beşiktaş. For buyers whose priority is the view rather than the postcode, that is usually the trade worth making.
